Why choose your dentist for BOTOX treatments?
1. Dentists are experts at injections around the face.
2.Dentists have more knowledge about head and neck anatomy than most physicians or MedSpas.
Common questions about BOTOX
1. What is BOTOX?
Botox is an FDA-approved neurotoxin that works by temporarily blocking the neurotransmitter released by nerve cells that results in muscle contraction. It was approved by the FDA in 2002 for cosmetic use.
2. How does it work?
By temporarily blocking the neurotransmitters, BOTOX weakens or paralyzes the muscles involved in making certain repetitive movements. When your repetitive facial movements are decreased, your skin is able to relax, and wrinkles are reduced. This treatment can be used to smooth and reduce facial wrinkles between the eyes, in the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), or around the lips (smoker’s lines). BOTOX can also be used to treat clenching and grinding.
At your first appointment, Dr. Caitlin Lochtefeld will do a facial exam and discuss the areas that you’re concerned about and what your goals are. Our dentist will then determine your customized treatment plan with the needed units. Then she will administer the BOTOX.
The total procedure takes about five or ten minutes with very little discomfort and really no downtime. You can resume your normal activities right after.
3. What are the side effects? How long does it last?
Side effects are minimal and rare, but can include:
- Bruising/swelling at the injection sites
- Flu-like symptoms
Our Dayton Comprehensive Dentistry team recommends scheduling BOTOX at least two weeks before any big event. Results are noticeable two to nine days after administration and last about three months. Please contact us today to learn more and to schedule a consultation.
